Waste Connections to move HQ out of California

Citing the company’s expanding geographic footprint, Waste Connections, Inc. has announced plans to move its headquarters from Folsom, California, to The Woodlands, Texas, by September 2012. “Our expanding geographic reach and expected continuing growth required us to make an objective assessment of the appropriate location for our corporate headquarters,” said CEO Ronald Mittelstaedt. “The Woodlands offers our employees an attractive, lower cost, and more centrally located community well serviced by two major airports.” Every employee has been offered the opportunity to relocate, and most are expected to, he added. Yet while geographic expansion was offered as the primary reason for the move, Mittelstaedt had sharply criticized California’s business climate during a radio interview in August, characterizing the state’s legislature as “dysfunctional” and claiming that “it’s extremely difficult to do business here.”
