The European Commission has adopted an expanded version of the Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive, which prohibits the inclusion of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in certain categories of electrical and electronic equipment sold in the European Union nations. The revised RoHS directive has been extended to apply to medical devices, monitoring and control instruments, and such related products as cables and spare parts.
