The nation of Brazil has issued a tender valued at R$6.63 billion (approximately $3.59 billion U.S.) to privatize water and sewer services in the city of Cuiabá in Matta Grosso state. The 30-year concession will include the construction of water intakes, domestic water and sewer connections, sewer outfalls, and water meter installations throughout the service territory. Cuiabá officials approved the privatization plan in September 2011; the value of the tender is based on the city’s municipal sanitation plan and corresponds with projected revenue generated over the concession period. Currently, the city’s water and sewer system is operated and maintained by the utility Sanecap.
