Covanta Energy Corp. (Morristown, NJ) has entered the market for the recycling of electronic wastes, or “e-wastes,” through the establishment of a new subsidiary, to be called ECOvanta. The new unit operates a recycling facility in West Philadelphia to accept computers, monitors, mobile phones, printers, televisions, and other categories of e-waste. Covanta said that the facility has successfully passed the required audits and has been recommended to receive the R2 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications for the proper disposal of e-waste. “We are excited to be launching this new venture into e-waste recycling,” said Seth Myones, president of Covanta Americas. “It is a growing market, and we see a great opportunity to a provide proper, responsible way to recycle and dispose of these materials as more and more people become aware of its importance. In addition, we are proud to be providing new green jobs in the city of Philadelphia.”
